You're Personally Invited to the “BetweenUs” Exhibition and Performances!

We are thrilled to personally invite you to our upcoming exhibition and live performance series!  This exhibition is a project created in collaboration with partners, reflecting on the artistic legacy of Fluxus and "Happenings" in New Jersey, particularly in New Brunswick and Rutgers University during the 1960s and 1970s.

Presenting the “BetweenUS” exhibition in collaboration with Robert Diken of Basecamp Studio & Gallery, a new contemporary art gallery in the Arts District of Metuchen.  www.thebasecamp.art

It’s an exciting blend of a gallery exhibition, immersive installations, and interactive performances that truly embodies the playful and boundary-breaking spirit of the movement.

We would be honored to have you join us for one of our special performance dates:

·      Saturday - September 6 from 6:00 - 9:00PM

·      Saturday - September 27 from 2:00 – 5:00PM

We have limited seating, so we expect this to fill up fast and wanted you to have an early opportunity to join the fun.  Each evening will feature our unique performances:

Simon Keller — Flow

Is a contemplative duo performance on motion and stillness in the moment, using natural materials, clay, sand, stones, and airborne calligraphy in the minimalistic soundscape of Pentatonic Permutations by Berlin based artist Benjamin Heidersberger. It explores experiencing eons in that moment of liminality and transformation.

Nicole Strafaci — Inside Out

How does it feel to trust the innate wisdom of our bodies; to move from the inside out?  Nicole’s performance reveals the abundant nature of embodiment. What happens when we create from this perspective? Utilizing breath work, movement, props and visual and written prompts, Strafaci will interact with participants to create a series of short, improvisational theater works.

Spencer Soletto — Butoh Dance & Poetry

Blending Japanese Butoh Dance with Haiku poetic installation, Soletto loses himself to image and motion, inviting viewers to experience dormant emotions and rediscover personal meaning through embodied language.

Frank May — Paper Day

Inspired by the ephemeral and transformative nature of everyday materials, "Paper Day" invites participants to engage in a spontaneous exploration of creativity using an unexpected media. With toilet paper as a sculptural material, attendees are encouraged to experiment, collaborate, and express themselves freely. Watch as rolls of toilet paper take flight, creating whimsical canopies over and through a central tent, or as individual hands sculpt delicate and robust forms from the pulp. Please join us in a moment that is reshaped by collective energy and a shared experience.

The Performances will be held indoors at Lotus River Studio, our neighbor in the Metuchen Arts District at 325 Main St, two doors from the exhibition location at Basecamp Studio & Gallery at 315 Main St.   Free off the street parking behind 315 Main. You can also get a chance to participate spontaneously in the “Happenings Performance” if you like, or you can just bring your curiosity and good humor and enjoy the playfulness.

TICKETS

Iickets are FREE with an option to donate whatever you like to cover the costs of the space rental, refreshments and some small compensation to the artists.  The location is air conditioned and fully handicapped accessible. Seating will be provided.

Your support means the world to us, and we would love to share this experience with you. Please visit our Event flyer and to secure your tickets for either September 6 or September 27.

We are so excited to see you there!
