The Sun Room: Interchanges, B-Sides & Remixes started out as polaroid sketches made in and around my studio from 2008 - 2017. The literal immediacy of the polaroid film itself was revitalizing; I could make photograms and experiment with materials without any of the usual lag time between sending film out to a lab and making contact prints. After a days work there would sometimes be close to a hundred sheets of film scattered around my studio. This sheer volume of physical imagery made me begin to consider the connections between images: the changing light in the studio, the winter sun in the early evening, the abstraction of a mesh screen lying in the corner, text drawn from the day'splaylist of songs... it all contributes to a series that I see as a visual journal of my studio practice. In this edition for Sherpa Gallery, I have scanned the original unique prints and decided to make an edition of inkjet prints of these works available. This mirrors the publication, Interchanges, B-Sides & Remixes (Sun System Press, 2012), of these works as they are now more widely available at an approachable price point.
About: Bryan Graf
