Enrique Zaldivar is a Cuban painter who graduated from the Professional Academy of Fine Arts “El Alba” in Holguín, Cuba. His works are a mix of magical realism, surrealism, and illustration—works with a deep poetic sense, which address issues such as the meaning of life, freedom, religion, death, loneliness, power, and exile. Modern Musings will include abstraction impressionist pieces, largely acrylics and drawings, featuring landscapes and portraits of modern muses.

Artist Statement – Enrique Zaldivar

The plight of almost every artist originates from a vast, unconquerable desire for self-expression. In my case, I fulfill this impulse by integrating my vibrant, expressionistic work into my way of life—living and breathing the essence of each brushstroke.

Painting with acrylic is, for me, a liberating act. My work reveals my inner world—my character, mood, and philosophy of life—drawing from impressionism, abstraction, surrealism, and pop art while maintaining a distinctly personal visual language.

Nature plays a central role in my work, often intertwined with a strong use of complementary colors that seek harmony and balance within the canvas. These effervescent mixtures of hues illuminate the surface, much like the tropical light of Cuba and the shifting tones of autumn in the United States, infusing my landscapes with a singular intensity.
