CENTRAL NJ ARTIST FORUM
Friends of Metuchen Arts (FOMA), in association with Basecamp Studio & Gallery announced invite you to the Central NJ Artist Forum to be held on Saturday, June 14th, 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. at the American Legion Post 65 located at 17 Calvin Place in Metuchen. The Forum is open to area artists and arts practitioners and will explore the business, heart, and hustle of growing an artistic practice. The afternoon will include a keynote presentation by Judy Yin-Chi Lee: in which she will discuss “The Counterpoint of Passion and Purpose.” In the arts world, passion is the spark that starts a career, but purpose is the fuel that sustains it. Judy Yin-Chi Lee, who has navigated the highest levels of the New York arts scene, performing at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center while managing multi-million dollar projects, will discuss the strategic shift from passion (doing what you love) to purpose (creating what is needed.) An expert panel of distinguished local artists moderated by actress-film maker Claire McClanahan, will dive into the realities of evolving a sustainable creative life while keeping inspiration front and center. The panelists include artist and teacher Joseph Castronova, creative wellness professional, life coach and artist Vika Chala, gallerist and curator Dontae Muse, and ceramic artist Linda Vonderschmidt LaStella. The panelists will tackle the practical questions every artist faces including: · Valuing your work – factoring time, skill and marketing into your pricing. · Authentic self-promotion – navigating social media while preserving artistic integrity. · Professional Presence - best practices for gallery relationships, auditions and presentations. · Financial stability – Managing a “portfolio career” through sales, teaching, grants and part-time work. “Artists have been asking for opportunities to meet each other, share ideas, network and build a stronger community – and Friends of Metuchen Arts is delighted to meet that need with the development of the Central NJ Artist Forum,” says FOMA president Kat Drinane Davis. “This is the place where all artists - from emerging creators to seasoned professionals - can make meaningful connections and build relationships that support their work.” Networking and community building is the core function of the Forum. Attendees are encouraged to come for insight and stay for community. Light fare and refreshments will be served. Tickets for the June 14th Central NJ Artist Forum are $20 and can be purchased at www.friendsofmetuchenarts.org.
HAIKU POETRY WALK
Ginko is a Japnese poetic tradition of gong to some scenic areas and connecting to the environment through poetry. This walk will be on the undeveloped Greenway path which is not paved, but travels west from the current trail head parking lot, in a more natural and untamed pathway for a true nature hike without distractions of pedestrian walkers, bikers etc.
GINKO HAIKU will be hosted by Basecamp Studio & Gallery 315 Main St Metuchen NJ where the meetup and follow up writing exercises will take place.
FREE PARKING at the location. Our guest artist Spencer Soletto will provide encouraging instruction and be leading the event.
This is the first of a series of 4 Haiku Poetry Walks which will take place at the change of each season starting with this Summer Solstice event.
