The Basecamp Artist residency
Program Overview
Basecamp Studio & Gallery offers a five-week artist residency at our gallery space in the heart of Metuchen, New Jersey. Whether you are between bodies of work, exploring a new direction, or simply need dedicated time and space to focus, the residency gives you a studio of your own inside a working gallery and creative community. No commission is taken on any work you sell. The work you make is yours, start to finish.

Studio Time
Five full weeks of dedicated studio access, with daily access to the gallery until 9:00 PM and your own key for the duration of your residency.
Community & Visibility
Your work is shown alongside the gallery's ongoing program. An opening reception caps your residency, introducing your work to the Basecamp community.
A Place to Show Your Work After
Every residency includes a complimentary 12-month Sherpa Gallery listing — Basecamp's online portfolio platform — so your work has a home online the moment your residency ends.

$500 flat fee — no commission on any sales
Schedule
Seven residency blocks run annually, with one-week transitions between each
Summer Pause
Program pauses June through August for personal exhibitions and special events
Studio Access
Daily access until 9:00 PM, with key access for the residency duration

Who This Is For?
The residency is open to working artists at any stage of practice. We welcome applications from artists working in any medium — painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, mixed media, textiles, and beyond.
This residency may be a good fit if you:
• Want dedicated studio time away from your usual workspace
• Are working toward a new body of work or exhibition
• Want to be part of an active gallery and creative community during your residency
• Are interested in building an online presence for your work through the Sherpa Gallery
How to Apply
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis for upcoming residency blocks.
To apply, send the following to thebasecamp.art@gmail.com:
• A short artist bio and statement
• 5-10 images of recent work
• A brief description of what you hope to work on during your residency
• Your preferred residency block / timeframe, if known
We respond to all applications within two weeks.

Is the $500 fee refundable?
The fee is non-refundable once a residency block has begun. If Basecamp must cancel a block, you will receive a full refund or the option to transfer to a future block.
Do I keep all the work I make?
Yes. All work created during your residency belongs entirely to you. Nothing is required to stay at Basecamp.
Does Basecamp take a commission on sales?
No. You may sell your work directly to buyers using any payment method you choose. Basecamp does not collect any commission.
What happens to the Sherpa Gallery listing after 12 months?
You may renew at the standard rate, or simply let the listing expire. We will notify you in advance of your renewal date.
Can I apply for more than one residency block?
Yes. Past residents are welcome to apply again for future blocks as space allows.
